Dublin Ukulele Collective & The High Hopes Choir, Friday

Christmas Concerts and Recitals Night

Dublin Ukulele Collective & The High Hopes Choir – Dec 21st (fund raiser for Focus Ireland)

The High Hopes Choir

This choir made up of homeless people is the brain child of former RTE Concert Orchestra’s principal conductor David Brophy. His idea behind it was to give homeless people a voice and help them change the public’s perception of what it means to be homeless. It worked. RTE made a heart-moving documentary that brought the reality of homelessness to viewers. Members gained a sense of self-confidence and it allowed them to believe in themselves. Many are back in school or college now and are no longer on the streets. Music changed their lives.

High Hopes now has a choir in Waterford, Cork and Dublin and there are plans in the pipeline for similar in Limerick and Sligo.

Dublin Ukulele Collective

Also known as DUC, this is a 40+piece ukulele harmony band that have brought smiles to faces nationwide. Ranging in age up to 70+, they perform a diverse repertoire of songs from artists that reflect the age span including Elbow, Lorde, Cold Play, OneRepublic, Talking Heads, Amy Winehouse, Erasure, Leonard Cohen, Jason Mraz, Radio Head and more.

In review of Electric Picnic, Golden Plec cites DUC as “The most wholesome performance of the weekend” and put them top of the list ahead of BellX1 and Noel Gallagher.

DUC perform regularly for charities and have featured on TV several times. They are favourites with many including President Michael D Higgins
