Exhibition of Icons from June 22 to end of September

Artist Adrienne Lord qualified in fine art painting from NCAD in 2001, having previously practised as an Architect for a number of years. In 2008 she started writing Icons under tutors Eva Vlaviano and Dick Sinclair working in the Greek Byzantine tradition of tempera and gold leaf.

After travelling to Russia and Crete in the last few years, this exhibition also contains some Russian and Cretan Icons.

Alongside showing a large number of Icons there will also be a video and examples of the process of writing and Icon. On the last Friday of each month the artist will give a demonstration and guided tour of the exhibition.

 

Friday 28th July

11h00 to 12h45. Demonstration and talk on choosing prototype, doing drawing and transferring onto board.

14h00 Tour of the exhibition and the process of writing an Icon.

 

Friday 25th August

11h00 to 12h45. Demonstration on gilding an Icon.

14h00 Tour of the exhibition and the process of writing an Icon.

 

Friday 29th September

11h00 to 12h45. Demonstration on applying the paint to an Icon.

14h00 Tour of the exhibition and the process of writing an Icon.


Places are limited to 20 people per demonstration and per tour, and are on a first come first served basis. For details and bookings please contact Christ Church Cathedral on 01 677 8099.

Christ Church Cathedral will also be selling raffle tickets to win the beautiful Triptych Icon. Tickets will be €1 each or 6 for €5. Proceeds will go towards the Society for Poor People Development in Tamil Nadu, India.
 

 


Essential Information

Event Venue: Christ Church Cathedral, Christchurch Place, Dublin 8. 

Dates: Thursday, June 22 to end of September, 2017. There will also be demonstrations by the artist on the last Friday of each month between 11:00 - 13:00 and a guided tour of the exhibition from 14:00 - 16:00.

Admissions: The exhibition is free to view during cathedral opening hours. Details for booking for the demonstrations and guided tours coming soon. Raffle tickets must be bought in person at the cathedral - date available TBC.

By BUS: Christchurch Place is on several bus routes, including 123, 13, 27, 40, 49, 77a and 77x - see DublinBus.ie for information.

By LUAS: Christ Church is served by the Luas Red Line. Get off at the Four Courts stop and cross the river on to Winetavern Street.

By TRAIN: Christ Church is located 15 minutes walk from Heuston and 20 minutes walk from Connolly Rail Stations, both of which are served by the number 90 bus which stops on both sides of the quays directly opposite the cathedral.

By DART: Christ Church is located approximately 10 minutes walk from Tara Street Dart Station.

CAR PARKING: The nearest car park is Q-Park Christ Church, accessed from Werburgh Street, just across from the cathedral. It is a 24-hour car park.
